General guidelines

  • The Embassy in Oslo does not deliver visa. Visa applications for Belgium from Scandinavia are handled by the Embassy of Belgium in Helsinki, Finland. More information is available on the website of the Belgian Embassy in Helsinki.
  • You need a valid residence permit for Norway/Iceland to be able to apply for a visa. If your residence permit has run out, you first need to apply for an extension at the local authorities.
  • All documents to be presented in a visa application must be originals, legalized by means of an apostille and translated if nescessary.

Helsinki

The Embassy in Oslo does not deliver visa. For Scandinavia, visa applications are regionally handled by our colleague's in Helsinki, Finland. Please consult the Embassy in Helsinki its webpage for all practical information regarding your visa application. 

Local practicalities

Norway

Medical certificate:

Medical certificate for VISA - English

  • The Embassy has no list of agreed doctors, mainly due to the organisation of the Norwegian Health Care system. Your appointed fastlege is to fill in the medical certificate.
  • The medical certificate needs to be legalized. This is a two-step process:

    1. Firstly, the completed, signed medical certificate needs to be legalized by the Notarius Publicus, a service part of the Norwegian Courts.
    2. Secondly, after intervention of the Notarius Publicus, the medical certficate needs to be legalized for international use by the County Governor (Statsforvalteren) by means of an apostille.
    The medical certificate is valid for use outside Norway when the document bears an apostille.

Certificate of Conduct:

  • The certificate of conduct is ordered directly via, in person, the Norwegian Police or online. Make sure to request the certificate in English.
  • The police certificate of conduct requires legalization for international use by the County Governor (Statsforvalteren) by means of an apostille.

Iceland

Medical certificate

Medical certificate for VISA - English

  • The Embassy currently has no list of agreed doctors. You're free to consult a doctor of your own choice until further notice.
  • The medical certificate needs to be legalized for international use by means of an apostille. Please consult the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.

Certificate of Conduct:

  • The certificate of good conduct is delivered by the Iceland District Commissioners (Syslumenn.is).
  • The certificate of conduct requires legalization for international use by means of an apostille. Please consult the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.
